Hays are delighted to be supporting a highly respected organisation in Aberdeen with the appointment of an interim Financial Accountant for a period of at least 6 months. This is an excellent opportunity for a qualified accountant to join a high-performing finance team and play a key role in statutory reporting, financial control, compliance and financial improvement initiatives.

Reporting into senior finance leadership, you will be responsible for supporting the preparation of statutory accounts, ensuring robust financial controls are maintained and delivering high-quality financial information to support decision-making across the organisation. The role also offers the opportunity to contribute to ongoing finance transformation and automation projects, making it ideal for an individual who enjoys driving continuous improvement alongside core financial accounting responsibilities.

The Role

Working as part of a collaborative finance function, you will support the delivery of accurate financial reporting, statutory compliance and strong financial governance. You will work closely with colleagues across finance and the wider business to ensure financial processes operate effectively and support organisational objectives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the preparation of statutory financial statements and associated disclosures in line with IFRS requirements
  • Coordinate and maintain supporting schedules and working papers for annual audit processes
  • Prepare and review monthly balance sheet reconciliations, ensuring all movements are fully understood
  • Support the production of monthly management accounts and financial reporting packs
  • Manage fixed asset accounting, including additions, disposals and depreciation calculations
  • Prepare VAT and other tax returns, ensuring ongoing regulatory compliance
  • Produce cash flow forecasts and support treasury and banking activities
  • Maintain and strengthen key financial controls, policies and procedures
  • Support finance systems development, automation and process improvement initiatives
  • Build effective relationships with internal stakeholders, auditors and external bodies
  • Assist with risk management activities and support good financial governance across the organisation
  • Provide support across the wider finance team during periods of peak activity

Candidate Profile

Hays are seeking a technically strong and commercially aware finance professional who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment and takes pride in delivering accurate, high-quality financial information.

Essential:

  • Qualified Accountant (CA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent)
  • Experience preparing statutory accounts under IFRS
  • Strong technical accounting knowledge and financial reporting experience
  • Experience supporting external audits and managing audit requirements
  • Strong understanding of balance sheet reconciliations and financial controls
  • Experience preparing tax returns and ensuring regulatory compliance
  • Excellent analytical skills with strong attention to detail
  • Advanced Excel skills and strong knowledge of financial systems
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment
  • Self-motivated with a proactive approach to problem solving and continuous improvement

Desirable:

  • Exposure to Power BI and financial reporting tools
  • Experience supporting finance transformation or automation projects
