The primary purpose of this role is to act as a senior technical expert and trusted advisor in AI/ML engineering, leading the design and delivery of AI-powered products and agentic systems that enhance organisational capability. As a key member of the AI Centre of Excellence (CoE), the post holder will help define and embed enterprise-wide standards for AI/ML engineering, promoting consistency, quality, and best practice across the organisation.

This is a hands-on, Director-level individual contributor role, combining deep technical expertise with cross-functional leadership and strategic influence. The post holder will focus on delivering high-impact AI/ML solutions, working closely with IT and platform teams to ensure scalable infrastructure, robust production deployment, and long-term operational success.

What you'll need to succeed:

  • Extensive hands-on experience in AI/ML engineering with a track record of delivering production-grade AI products.
  • Expert Python engineering skills and deep experience with ML frameworks such as PyTorch and/or TensorFlow.
  • Proven experience building and deploying LLM-based applications using providers such as OpenAI, Anthropic, and open-source models via AWS Bedrock or direct APIs.
  • Hands-on experience with agentic AI frameworks such as LangChain, LangGraph, and Strands.
  • Strong experience with ML lifecycle platforms such as AWS SageMaker and MLflow.
  • Experience building CI/CD pipelines for ML/AI systems using GitLab CI/CD, Docker, and Kubernetes.
  • Strong grounding in statistics, machine learning theory, and signal processing.
  • Experience with cloud environments (AWS preferred) and distributed compute or training environments (e.g., Slurm).
