Hays are now looking for a Java Developer on a 12 month contract. The client requires all candidates to already hold SC Clearance and NPPV3.

£428 Inside IR35 Mainly Remote (once a month in Bridgend or Reading). Candidates must hold current NPPV3 & SC Clearance.

Our client is building a team to support and maintain a critical national policing system used across the UK. This role focuses on Level 3 support, troubleshooting, and ongoing development of legacy Java-based applications in a highly collaborative environment. Working closely with Support, Platform, and DBA teams, you will play a key role in ensuring system stability, implementing enhancements, and resolving complex technical issues.

What You'll Be Doing:
  • Provide Level 3 support for a business-critical national system
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and resolve production issues
  • Maintain, enhance, and support legacy Java-based applications
  • Develop, refactor, and implement automated tests
  • Design, build, and test Java and PL/SQL programs/scripts
  • Work with Oracle databases, developing and supporting PL/SQL
  • Integrate with auditing and monitoring/protective services
  • Contribute to technical discussions and continuous improvement
What We're Looking For:
  • At least 2/3 years' working experience with Java (Java SE 11+; experience with Java 8 also relevant)
  • Experience working with legacy/monolithic applications
  • Strong knowledge of Spring framework
  • Experience with Oracle databases and PL/SQL development
  • Familiarity with WebLogic (or similar application servers)
  • Experience using JDBC/ODBC for database connectivity
  • Exposure to EJB/JSP
  • Experience with Elasticsearch (development/support)
  • Proven testing experience for Java and PL/SQL applications
