Location: Remote with occasional travel for workshops and meetings

Your new company, you will be supporting a major public sector organisation on the modernisation, maintenance and ongoing enhancement of critical Oracle database platforms hosted within AWS. These environments support a range of enterprise Oracle applications and services, requiring a highly skilled DBA capable of balancing operational excellence with ongoing transformation initiatives.

Your new role: We are seeking an experienced Principal Oracle DBA to help drive the evolution of database services towards a mature DevOps operating model. Working within a multidisciplinary Agile team, you will focus on automation, continuous delivery, monitoring and operational improvements while ensuring Oracle database environments remain secure, stable and highly available. You will provide technical leadership and mentoring to other DBAs whilst remaining hands-on with complex Oracle technologies and AWS-hosted environments.

Key responsibilities:

  • Drive the modernisation of Oracle database services and DevOps adoption.
  • Mentor and support DBAs across the wider team.
  • Automate operational and administrative database tasks through scripting.
  • Improve monitoring, alerting and operational visibility.
  • Maintain secure, stable and high-performing Oracle database environments hosted in AWS.
  • Upgrade and migrate PL/SQL-based applications.
  • Install, patch and upgrade Oracle database platforms.
  • Troubleshoot and optimise Oracle database performance.
  • Support Oracle E-Business Suite R12 environments and associated middleware technologies.
  • Manage RMAN backup and recovery processes.
  • Administer Oracle Enterprise Manager environments.
  • Support WebLogic clustering and JVM tuning activities.
  • Create and utilise AWS CloudFormation templates to automate infrastructure deployment.
  • Work collaboratively within Agile product delivery teams.

What you'll need to succeed:

Essential skills and experience:

  • Expert experience working with AWS cloud services including EC2, RDS, Lambda and S3.
  • Expert experience setting up and maintaining continuous delivery and deployment pipelines.
  • Expert experience upgrading and migrating PL/SQL-based applications.
  • Strong Oracle Database administration experience across Oracle 10g, 11g and 12c on Unix/Linux.
  • Expert Oracle SQL tuning experience, including execution plans, indexes, hints and optimiser behaviour.
  • Expert experience in schema design and data modelling within legacy ERP environments.
  • Oracle installation, patching and upgrade experience.
  • Experience working with RMAN and Oracle Enterprise Manager.
  • Expert experience supporting Oracle E-Business Suite R12.
  • Expert experience supporting SOA, WebLogic, Portal and IAM technologies.
  • Expert experience supporting EBS Concurrent Managers.
  • Experience of WebLogic clustering and JVM tuning.
  • Strong scripting and automation experience.
  • Practical Git experience.
  • Ability to create and utilise AWS CloudFormation templates.
  • Experience working within Agile delivery environments.
  • Excellent mentoring, coaching and knowledge transfer skills.
  • Ability to obtain SC clearance.

Desirable skills and experience:

  • Experience using database version control tools such as Flyway.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Continuous improvement mindset.
