An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Lead Technical Architect to join a high-profile programme supporting NHS Blood and Transplant (NHSBT) on the migration of a critical national infrastructure application to Microsoft Azure.

The successful candidate will provide technical leadership across discovery, design assurance, and migration delivery, ensuring a secure, resilient, and operationally ready cloud solution. Working alongside senior stakeholders, Microsoft specialists, delivery teams, and third-party suppliers, you will act as the technical design authority throughout the cloud migration lifecycle.

Essential Skills & Experience
  • Extensive experience leading large-scale Azure cloud migration programmes.
  • Proven background as a Lead Technical Architect within complex enterprise environments.
  • Experience operating at SFIA Level 6/7.
  • Ability to provide technical governance across multiple workstreams and stakeholder groups.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to engage senior client stakeholders and hyperscale cloud providers.
  • Strong expertise across:
    • Microsoft Azure Architecture
    • Enterprise Networking
    • Identity & Access Management (IAM)
    • Security Architecture
    • Backup & Recovery
    • Disaster Recovery
    • Business Continuity Planning
Desirable
  • Microsoft Azure Solutions Architect certification.
  • TOGAF certification.
  • Experience migrating applications from on-premises environments to Azure.
  • Knowledge of service transition and operational support model design.
Key Responsibilities
  • Lead technical governance and architecture assurance throughout the migration programme.
  • Review and validate target Azure architecture and landing zone design.
  • Oversee security, resilience, compliance, and disaster recovery requirements.
  • Assess technical risks, dependencies, and migration approaches.
  • Support migration planning, implementation, cutover activities, and service transition.
  • Facilitate architecture workshops and governance forums.
  • Act as the primary technical interface between NHSBT, Microsoft, project teams, and third-party suppliers.
