Hays are working in partnership with a leading global, multidisciplined engineering and construction company to recruit a Project Design Engineer. This contractor provides a wide range of construction services across infrastructure sectors, including rail, water, power, and natural resources.
Your new role
The Project Design Engineer will support the delivery of various water projects across the UK and Ireland.
- Producing design details for sewerage, water treatment, and structures such as access platforms and bridges
- Managing and maintaining water and sewerage infrastructure operations
- Overseeing suppliers and subcontractors
- Presenting technical information to colleagues and clients
- Writing reports including Lift Plans, Method Statements, and Risk Assessments
- Managing project budgets
- Staying informed on regulatory changes and guidelines
- Managing contracts within budgetary constraints
- Liaising with clients, contractors, government agencies, local authorities, and suppliers
- Supervising staff and site workers
- Using specialist computer applications and simulation software
- Ensuring projects adhere to budgets and timelines
- Maintaining awareness of environmental issues
What you'll need to succeed
Skills and Experience
- 1-2 years' experience in the water industry
- Background in Electrical, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering
- Strong technical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work under pressure
- Creativity and commercial awareness
- Effective communication and teamwork
Qualifications
- Degree or equivalent in Electrical, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office; knowledge of AutoCAD/Revit is advantageous
