Your new company Hays Engineering is working with a young but fast growing decorative lighting manufacturing company that is expanding rapidly into International markets. As part of ongoing development plans, the company now wishes to appoint a Product Design Engineer to join their Design team.
The ideal candidate will be responsible for designing innovative, functional, and aesthetically pleasing lighting solutions that meet the needs of our customers while adhering to manufacturing constraints and sustainability standards.
Your new role:
- Design innovative lighting products (indoor, outdoor, residential, and commercial) that align with brand identity and market trends.
- Create detailed design specifications, sketches, 3D models, and prototypes using SolidWorks software.
- Collaborate with engineering and production teams to ensure designs are manufacturable and meet technical requirements.
- Conduct user research to understand customer needs and design products that address those needs effectively.
- Integrate sustainable practices and materials into the design process, ensuring environmental impact is minimised.
- Work closely with the marketing team to create compelling product presentations and visuals for promotional materials.
- Maintain an understanding of lighting trends, materials, technologies, and innovations in the industry.
- Participate in the testing and evaluation of prototypes, ensuring product functionality and performance standards are met.
- Ensure that designs comply with safety standards and industry regulations.
- Collaborate with suppliers to source materials and components that meet design and budgetary constraints.
- Continuously improve the design process and work on optimising efficiency.
What you’ll need to succeed:
- Bachelor's degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, or a related field.
- Experience in product design, ideally in the lighting industry or a related field.
- Proficiency in SolidWorks.
- Knowledge of materials, manufacturing processes, and sustainability principles in product design.
- Strong communication skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams and present ideas effectively.
- Ability to manage multiple design projects and deadlines.
