The primary purpose of this role is to serve as the senior technical and strategic leader for AI/MLOps Engineering within the businesses AI Centre of Excellence (CoE). The post holder will act as a recognised subject-matter expert and principal advisor, leading the productionisation, scaling, operational governance, and life cycle management of AI/ML systems across the organisation.
This is a Director-level leadership role requiring deep technical credibility, strong strategic judgement, and the ability to drive delivery across multiple business domains within a biotech environment. The role is accountable for defining and executing the enterprise AI/MLOps engineering strategy, ensuring that AI capabilities - including machine learning systems, large language models (LLMs), agentic AI workflows, and healthcare foundation models - are deployed through scalable, secure, reproducible, and GxP-compliant engineering practices.
What you'll need to succeed:
- Significant experience leading AI/MLOps, MLOps, AI platform engineering, or closely related technical capabilities in complex enterprise environments.
- Demonstrated experience defining strategy and leading delivery across multiple business areas.
- Deep knowledge of AI/ML productionisation, platform architecture, deployment patterns, life cycle management, and operational governance.
- Strong experience with cloud and platform ecosystems relevant to AI deployment, including managed ML services, infrastructure automation, containerisation, and CI/CD practices.
- Strong understanding of enterprise architecture, data integration, platform security, observability, reliability, and supportability requirements.
