Your new company is a growing engineering business seeking to appoint a Cost Accountant to join its finance team. With multiple sites and a strong focus on operational excellence, the organisation offers the opportunity to work in a commercially focused environment where accurate costing, financial insight and continuous improvement play a key role in business success.
Your new role involves supporting engineering sites in multiple locations by delivering consistent costing data, robust financial analysis and reporting to improve business performance and decision-making. Your responsibilities will include:
- Collecting and analysing product cost data across multiple engineering sites.
- Supporting the development and maintenance of standard costing methodologies.
- Preparing detailed variance, margin and cost analysis reports.
- Reviewing material, labour and production variances and driving corrective actions where required.
- Assisting with annual standard cost updates, inventory valuation reviews and margin analysis.
- Working closely with production, engineering, supply chain and commercial teams to ensure costing accuracy.
- Becoming a key user of the SAP costing system and supporting process improvements across the group.
- Contributing to budgeting, forecasting and cost-saving initiatives.
- Presenting meaningful financial insights and recommendations to management teams.
This role can be based in the Derry area and offers exposure to international operations within a fast-paced engineering environment.
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- A minimum of 3 years' cost accounting experience within a manufacturing environment.
- Strong costing systems knowledge and experience.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- A solid understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting.
- Advanced Excel skills, with proficiency across Microsoft Office applications.
- The ability to prepare and interpret daily, weekly, monthly and annual financial reports.
- Experience working with production, engineering or operations teams on costing and performance analysis.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to influence stakeholders at various levels.
Desirable requirements include:
- A degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or a related discipline.
- Previous experience using SAP or a similar ERP system.
- Experience developing and analysing cost standards within a manufacturing setting.
