Your new company Hays Accountancy & Finance are working with our client, a well-established organisation in Belfast, to recruit a Finance Manager on a 12-month fixed-term. This is an excellent opportunity for a qualified accountant to take on a senior finance leadership role within a complex and rewarding environment. Reporting to the Head of Finance, you will play a key role in delivering high-quality financial management, supporting strategic decision-making, strengthening financial controls, and driving process improvements across the organisation.

The successful candidate will lead operational finance activities while contributing to budgeting, forecasting, reporting, governance, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Your new role

  • Lead and oversee the day-to-day operations of the finance function
  • Manage and support a small finance team, ensuring effective service delivery
  • Oversee payroll processes and ensure compliance with relevant regulations
  • Prepare monthly management accounts, budgets, forecasts and financial reports
  • Support annual financial statements, year-end processes and external audits
  • Monitor cash flow and assist with treasury management activities
  • Review and enhance financial systems, processes and internal controls
  • Support digital transformation and finance system improvements
  • Develop meaningful financial reporting and KPI information for stakeholders
  • Prepare statutory and regulatory returns
  • Provide financial advice and guidance to senior management and committees
  • Monitor grant-funded projects and ensure accurate financial reporting
  • Build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Deputise for the Head of Finance when required

What you'll need to succeed

  • Full membership of a recognised UK accountancy body (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent)
  • At least 3 years' post-qualified experience within a finance or accounting environment
  • Experience producing statutory accounts and management accounts
  • Budget preparation and financial planning experience
  • Strong experience improving financial systems, controls, policies or procedures
  • Previous staff supervision or team leadership experience

Desirable

  • Experience within higher education, public sector or grant-funded environments
  • Knowledge of financial reporting requirements within complex organisations
  • Experience preparing business cases, funding applications or economic appraisals
