Are you passionate about Science and looking to take the first step into a rewarding teaching career? We are seeking an enthusiastic and committed Trainee Teacher of Science to join a supportive and forward-thinking alternative provision in Newcastle from September 2026. This is an exciting opportunity to gain valuable classroom experience while undertaking a structured programme leading to Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
Working within a specialist setting, you will support and inspire young people who require an alternative approach to education, helping them achieve both academically and personally. As a Trainee Teacher, you will undertake a structured training programme while gaining practical, hands-on experience in the classroom. Supported by experienced teachers, mentors and senior leaders, you will develop your teaching practice and build the skills needed to become a successful qualified teacher.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Planning and delivering engaging Science lessons across your subject specialism
- Supporting students with a range of educational and pastoral needs
- Developing your understanding of inclusive teaching practices, behaviour support and trauma-informed approaches
- Assessing and monitoring student progress
- Creating a positive and supportive learning environment
- Participating fully in academy life, enrichment activities and wider school events
- Engaging in ongoing professional development and training leading towards QTS
What We're Looking For:
- A degree or strong academic background in a Science-related subject
- A genuine passion for education and empowering young people
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Resilience, adaptability and a positive attitude
- Commitment to professional development and achieving QTS
- Previous experience working with young people is desirable but not essential
