As a Housing Options Officer, you will play a key role in delivering a comprehensive housing advice and homelessness prevention service. You will work with individuals and families facing homelessness, assessing their circumstances and providing tailored advice in line with the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017. Your responsibilities will include managing a caseload of applicants, completing detailed housing needs assessments, developing Personalised Housing Plans, and working proactively to prevent homelessness wherever possible. You will liaise with internal departments and external agencies, including homeowners and support services, to secure suitable accommodation solutions and positive outcomes for customers.

To be successful in this Housing Options Officer role, you will bring:

  • Proven experience working within a housing options, homelessness, or advice-based role
  • Strong knowledge of homelessness legislation, particularly the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017
  • Experience of managing complex caseloads and working to statutory deadlines
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to handle sensitive and challenging situations
  • Experience working with vulnerable individuals, providing person-centred support and advice
  • Strong administrative skills and the ability to maintain accurate, detailed case records

Desirable:

  • Experience working within a local authority setting
  • Knowledge of housing allocation schemes and private rented sector options
