We are looking to recruit an Independent Domestic Violence Advisor (IDVA) in St Helens on behalf of our social housing client. This is an initial 3-month temporary contract, working 37 hours per week (Mon to Fri), based in the office with some occasional travel through the day for customer visits.

The successful candidate will provide a professional advocacy and casework service to people and families who are suffering from domestic abuse. You will manage your own caseload, contact victims, complete safety plans and attend MARACs. We are looking to speak with individuals who have strong experience in a similar role or field.

Key responsibilities:
  • Responsible for managing your own caseload, using MERIT assessments to determine levels of risk and needs of those suffering from domestic abuse.
  • Contact victims and their families via the safest method, carrying out home visits where appropriate.
  • Develop plans in partnership with other agencies to protect families and individuals.
  • Ensure all risk assessments, support plans, outcomes and contact are recorded accurately within the case management system.
  • Attend and represent at MARAC.
  • Make referrals to specialist partners to ensure the safety of victims and their children.
  • Provide advocacy, emotional and practical support in relation to legal and housing options, health and finance.
What you’ll need to succeed:
  • A strong background in working and engaging with people encountering domestic abuse, ideally holding a Safelives or IDVA qualification.
  • A good understanding of the Domestic Abuse Act 2001, Family Law Act 1989, Serious Crime Act 2015.
  • Experience of completing MERIT risk assessments and attending MARAC.
  • Strong caseload management skills, developing support plans and ability to manage risk.
  • Resilience, empathy, and excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Driving licence with access to own vehicle and valid business insurance.
