Your new company Hays Education is partnering with a number of inclusive and supportive secondary schools across London, many of which have a strong focus on supporting students with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. Due to rising demand, we are looking for resilient and dedicated SEMH Specialist Teaching Assistants to join our network.
Your new role As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with students who may experience challenges with behaviour, emotional regulation, and engagement in learning. You will play a crucial role in helping students feel supported, understood, and able to succeed within the classroom. This role may involve working on a 1:1 basis or with small groups, both within mainstream classrooms and in alternative or nurture settings.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Supporting students with SEMH needs across Key Stages 3 and 4
- Building positive, trusting relationships to support engagement and wellbeing
- Implementing behaviour support strategies and de-escalation techniques
- Assisting students to manage emotions, routines, and classroom expectations
- Supporting learning activities and helping pupils stay focused and on task
- Working collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, and pastoral teams
