A warm and welcoming 28-bed care home is seeking an experienced and motivated Deputy Manager. This is a key leadership role supporting the Registered Manager in the day-to-day running of the home, ensuring high-quality, person-centred care and full compliance with CQC standards. We're looking for someone confident, proactive, and ready to bring stability, strong leadership, and a positive presence to both staff and residents. Location: Reading, Berkshire

Contract: 12-Month Fixed Term Contract to cover maternity leave

Start date: Early June (TBC)

Hours: 37.5 per week + occasional on-call

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the Registered Manager in the day-to-day running of the home and act as Manager in their absence.
  • Maintain compliance with the Health and Social Care Act 2008 and CQC regulations.
  • Lead, motivate, and supervise staff, ensuring regular supervisions, appraisals, and ongoing development.
  • Promote a culture of learning, continuous improvement, and person-centred practice.
  • Oversee staffing levels, rota planning, and effective resource allocation.
  • Ensure the home meets regulatory, legislative, and organisational standards.
  • Maintain accurate records, reports, and statutory documentation.
  • Support the Registered Manager in achieving the highest possible CQC ratings.
  • Champion person-centred care and ensure residents' needs, wishes, and wellbeing.
  • Build strong relationships with residents, families, and external professionals.
  • Ensure care plans are accurate, up to date, and followed by all staff.
  • Create a positive, homely, and safe environment.
  • Oversee health and safety requirements, including incident reporting and statutory checks.
  • Contribute to business and operational planning, risk assessment, and service improvement.

What you'll need to succeed

  • Experience in a senior role within a care home (Team leader, Deputy manager or Registered Manager).
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to inspire, develop and support a team.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building abilities.
  • A proactive, solution-focused approach and a commitment to continuous improvement.
  • Knowledge of CQC standards and regulatory requirements.
  • A genuine passion for delivering high-quality care.
  • While an NVQ Level 3 or 5 is desirable, it is not mandatory. What matters most is solid hands-on experience in care and a real passion for supporting residents.
