The role
As Finance Officer, you'll provide comprehensive financial and administrative support across a range of finance functions, with a particular focus on purchase ledger responsibilities. You'll be responsible for ensuring financial transactions are processed accurately and on time, maintaining strong financial controls and supporting colleagues across the organisation.
This role offers a varied workload, exposure to month-end processes and reconciliations, and the opportunity to contribute to ongoing improvements in finance systems and procedures.
Key Responsibilities
Purchase Ledger
- Process supplier invoices, ensuring accurate coding and authorisation.
- Match invoices against purchase orders and investigate discrepancies.
- Reconcile supplier statements and resolve outstanding queries.
- Prepare supplier payment runs in line with agreed payment terms.
- Maintain supplier records and ensure information remains accurate and up to date.
- Support the effective management of creditor accounts and aged creditors.
Financial Administration
- Process financial transactions accurately and efficiently.
- Maintain accurate financial records and supporting documentation.
- Assist with month-end and year-end procedures.
- Support financial reporting and management information requirements.
- Investigate and resolve financial discrepancies.
Reconciliations & Controls
- Assist with bank and control account reconciliations.
- Support income processing and other transactional finance activities.
- Maintain strong financial controls and audit trails.
- Assist with audit requirements when required.
Stakeholder Support
- Provide a professional and responsive service to internal and external customers.
- Build effective relationships with suppliers and budget holders.
- Support colleagues with financial procedures and processes.

Essential
- Experience working within a finance or accounts environment
- Strong purchase ledger/accounts payable experience
- Experience processing invoices, reconciliations and resolving finance queries
- Good working knowledge of Excel
- Experience using finance systems
- Strong communication and organisational skills
- Excellent accuracy and attention to detail
- Ability to prioritise workload and meet deadlines
