Your new company is an established Main contractor working across the South East region, now seeking an experienced Senior QS to oversee a recently awarded new-build education project in Portsmouth. The project is the result of an extremely successful period of tendering during which several new major projects have been won and are due on site in the coming months. The initial project is a new £15 million extension to an existing school due on site imminently. The role will be site-based with a contract programme of 18 months, with similar works to follow on the same framework. This is a newly created role and pays extremely competitively, demonstrating the importance and value of the role within the business.
As Senior QS, you'll take ownership of the commercial side of the project from start to finish, managing everything from early cost planning through to final account. The role includes procuring and overseeing subcontract packages, handling valuations and variations, and keeping on top of cost reporting, forecasts, and CVRs. You'll look after subcontractor payments, change control, and final accounts, making sure everything is run in line with the contract and company processes. Along the way, you'll work closely with the wider project team, clients, and consultants, while supporting value engineering and keeping a tight control on costs on site.
What you'll need to succeed:
- You will be an experienced Quantity Surveyor with a strong background in new build projects.
- Proven experience in managing the commercial aspects of construction projects.
- Strong negotiation skills and the ability to manage subcontractor relationships.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment.
