Your new role As a Bat Detector Ecologist, you will support environmental compliance on a major highway infrastructure project, carrying out bat activity surveys and monitoring to inform ecological mitigation and ensure works remain compliant with relevant legislation.

Key responsibilities include

  • Undertaking dusk/dawn bat surveys
  • Deploying, retrieving and analysing bat detectors
  • Identifying bat species from acoustic recordings
  • Assisting with ecological inspections and site monitoring
  • Producing accurate field notes and survey data
  • Supporting Ecological Clerk of Works (ECo W) activities where required.
  • Liaising with site teams to communicate ecological constraints
  • Ensuring all work is completed in line with health and safety procedures
  • What you'll need to succeed
  • Degree in Ecology or related area
  • CSCS / Highways Passport
  • Own PPE
  • Experience carrying out bat activity surveys
  • Proficiency using bat detector equipment and software
  • Strong bat species identification skills
  • Knowledge of UK wildlife legislation and best practice guidance
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including early mornings and evenings
  • Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle
  • Excellent communication and report-writing skills
  • Bat Licence L1/2
