A well-established specialist professional services business is looking to appoint an experienced Accountant on a part-time basis. Working within a close-knit team, this is a broad and trusted role offering responsibility across finance, payroll and the day-to-day running of the office.

Reporting directly to the CEO, you will take ownership of the day-to-day finance and accounting of the business, ensuring accurate records, effective cash-flow management and smooth financial processes.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Deliver month-end accounts, inclusive of cash flow forecasting, budgeting and variance reporting
  • Maintaining accurate financial records using Xero
  • Managing accounts receivable, including invoicing, allocating receipts and credit control
  • Managing accounts payable, supplier invoices, expenses and payment runs
  • Completing bank, credit card and balance-sheet reconciliations
  • Maintaining client billing schedules and monitoring payments
  • Supporting VAT preparation and liaising with external accountants
  • Producing regular financial reports, including aged debtors, creditors and income and expenditure
  • Maintaining and updating rolling cash-flow forecasts
  • Processing monthly UK payroll, including starters, leavers and salary changes
  • Managing PAYE, National Insurance and pension-related administration
  • Administering workplace pensions and employee benefits
  • Supporting onboarding, offboarding and employee administration
  • Managing office suppliers, subscriptions, contracts and renewals
  • Providing general administrative support to the CEO and wider team

What you'll need to succeed:

You will have at least five years' relevant experience within bookkeeping or start-to-finish accounts, with a small to medium-sized company or a similar finance-focused position. You will also ideally have:

  • Strong practical experience using Xero
  • Experience across accounts payable and receivable
  • Previous responsibility for cash-flow forecasting
  • Hands-on UK payroll experience
  • Strong Excel skills and excellent attention to detail
  • The ability to work independently and manage competing deadlines
  • A discreet and professional approach when handling confidential information

An AAT or finance qualification would be advantageous, although strong practical experience will be the priority. Previous experience within a professional services or advisory environment, dealing with foreign currencies or international clients would also be beneficial.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a small, specialist business in a varied and responsible position. You will work closely with senior leadership and have genuine ownership across the finance and administrative functions, making this an ideal role for someone who enjoys autonomy and being an integral part of a close-knit team.
