Sandwell Metropolitan Borough Council is looking for an experienced Housing Occupational Therapist to join its Adult Social Care Floating Support and Vulnerable People Housing Service.

Your new role

This specialist role will focus on helping people with physical disabilities access suitable housing and live as independently as possible. You will assess applicants' long-term housing needs, recommend appropriate property types, equipment and adaptations, and help ensure that adapted properties are allocated effectively.

As a Housing Occupational Therapist, your responsibilities will include:

Completing Occupational Therapy assessments for applicants with disabilities who require suitable housing

Making recommendations based on assessed needs and long-term housing requirements

Assessing and advising on equipment, adaptations and suitable property types

Supporting the effective allocation of adapted properties

Working in partnership with housing colleagues, Adult Services, health professionals and external agencies

Exploring appropriate housing options to promote independent living

Contributing to the development of housing procedures, policies and best practice

Supporting the maintenance and effective operation of an adapted housing register

Providing advice and training on identifying, categorising and recording adapted properties

Maintaining accurate records and providing performance reports when required

What you'll need to succeed

A recognised Occupational Therapy qualification

Current professional registration as an Occupational Therapist

Experience of completing functional assessments and making evidence-based recommendations

Knowledge of housing adaptations, specialist equipment and the needs of people with physical disabilities

The ability to assess an individual's long-term housing requirements

Strong partnership-working and communication skills

The ability to maintain accurate records and reports

A flexible approach to working hours in response to the needs of service users, carers and the wider service

A commitment to professional development and working within the Occupational Therapy Professional Code of Conduct
