Your new company: You will be joining an established organisation delivering professional highway services on behalf of local highway authorities across Northamptonshire. The business operates in partnership with public sector clients and is known for its focus on safety, technical quality and community impact.
Your new role: You will be responsible for site inspection and compliance monitoring of developer-led highway works on behalf of the local highway authority during the construction and adoption process.
- Act as the primary point of contact for developers and contractors during construction of new streets proposed for adoption and associated highway works.
- Monitor developer and contractor work for compliance with approved drawings, specifications, planning conditions, legal agreements and permits.
- Identify non-compliant works, agree required remedial actions and monitor works through to completion.
- Inspect works within the existing highway to ensure public and operational safety, including compliance with traffic management requirements.
- Liaise with developers, designers, contractors and Development Management and Technical Audit teams to agree design changes where required.
- Ensure all parties comply with health, safety and CDM regulations throughout project delivery.
- Confirm completion of civil engineering works to support maintenance approvals and highway adoption certification.
- Maintain accurate records, including inspection reports, audits, compliance issues, correspondence and as-built information.
- Provide engineering guidance and technical support to Development Management officers within North and West Northamptonshire Councils.
What you'll need to succeed:
- HNC or HND in Civil Engineering, or equivalent relevant experience.
- Proven experience supervising highway works on site.
- Working knowledge of Section 38 and Section 278 agreements and development-led highway works.
- Understanding of the Safety at Street Works and Road Works Code of Practice.
- Strong knowledge of CDM regulations and the ability to ensure compliance throughout project delivery.
- Familiarity with highway design standards and core design principles.
- Understanding of road safety audit requirements and environmental legislation.
