Hays Education is delighted to be supporting a client school in Middlesbrough with the recruitment of an experienced and motivated School Business Manager. This is a key leadership role within the school, working closely with the Headteacher and Senior Leadership Team to ensure the effective management of finance, HR, estates, health and safety, and administrative operations. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in ensuring the school runs efficiently, remains financially sustainable, and continues to provide a safe and well-managed environment for pupils and staff.
The role:
- Overall responsibility for the school's operational and business functions, including:
- Financial management, budgeting, reporting, and compliance
- Managing payroll, HR processes and staffing matters
- Overseeing premises, estates, contracts and procurement
- Leading on health and safety, risk management and statutory compliance
- Line management of premises, administrative and operational staff
- Supporting strategic planning and organisational development
- Acting as a key point of contact with external stakeholders including local authorities and service providers
This is a varied and rewarding role suited to someone who enjoys balancing strategic input with hands-on operational responsibility in a busy school environment.
The ideal candidate will have:
- A relevant qualification in business management, finance, administration or similar
- Strong experience of budget setting, financial monitoring and reporting
- Experience of managing staff and operational teams
- Sound knowledge of HR, payroll and employment processes
- Experience of premises and health & safety management
- Excellent organisational, communication and time management skills
- The ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines
- Experience working in an education setting (desirable)
