Your new role: As a Mechanical Shift Technician, you will work as part of a dedicated Engineering team, supporting the safe and efficient operation of assets within a heavy engineering environment. This role involves delivering both planned and reactive maintenance across a wide range of mechanical equipment, ensuring minimal downtime and continued operational performance.
Key responsibilities include:
- Carrying out maintenance, repairs and modifications on heavy plant and mechanical equipment
- Diagnosing faults and resolving breakdowns using structured fault-finding techniques
- Working closely with operational teams to prioritise and plan maintenance works
- Supporting wider engineering activities including project work, quality systems and health & safety initiatives
- Ensuring all work is documented correctly and completed in line with Health & Safety legislation and Permit to Work systems
The role operates on a distinctive 3 days on / 3 days off, followed by 3 nights on / 3 nights off shift pattern, offering extended rest periods and an excellent work-life balance.
What you'll need to succeed: To be considered for this role, you will need:
- A time-served mechanical apprenticeship
- NVQ Level 3 in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent)
- A HNC in Mechanical Engineering, or the willingness to be put forward for HNC training
- Proven experience working in a heavy engineering or industrial environment
- Strong hands-on experience with machinery such as conveyor systems, hydraulics, pneumatics and rotating equipment
- The ability to fault find, problem solve and use diagnostic equipment effectively
- A knowledge of maintaining rotating equipment
- A sound understanding of Permit to Work systems and incident reporting
- Familiarity with CMMS systems and maintenance strategies such as RCM, PM, CBM and TPM (advantageous)
- A full, valid UK driving licence
