A large national UK Charity has an excellent opportunity within its in-house legal team for a senior (5+ PQE) lawyer to be its specialist health & safety regulatory lawyer. The role can be performed completely remotely, provided you are UK based, with the opportunity for office attendance if preferred. 4 or 5 day working week.

My client is looking to appoint a senior level health & safety regulatory lawyer (solicitor/barrister/CILEX) at minimum 5 years pqe to senior, to have the primary responsibility for the provision of legal advice to the Charity on all aspects of regulatory including H&S law, environmental and public liability.

Key to this role is managing risk associated with potential legal proceedings of £10 million +, and the loss of public reputation, criminal and other potential enforcement action by the regulators. This is a really interesting and unique H&S regulatory role, integral to the performance and reputation of the Charity.

You will:

  • Be the lead strategic advisor on all aspects of H&S law and management, providing advice across and at all levels of the organisation (including the Executive and the Board) on legal risk and compliance.
  • Advise the Charity on compliance with H&S law in respect of colleague (employee and volunteer) safety.
  • Support the Head of Environment Law, providing legal advice on all aspects of environmental regulatory compliance.
  • Manage the Charity's response to incidents leading to enforcement action by a regulator.
  • Provide legal advice on a fit for purpose approach in respect of the management of H&S risks of public use of the Charity's land.
  • Support the development of the Charity's H&S policy and processes, including risk assessment, reporting and investigations.
  • Advise the Charity's H&S team on regulatory aspects of H&S law, assisting in responses to coroners reports, inquests and HSE enquiries, notices and enforcement action.

The ideal lawyer (solicitor/barrister/CILEX) will enjoy working within a close knit and collaborative legal team, all working from home and enjoying a fantastic work/life balance. You will be a confident lawyer with excellent communication and negotiation skills and a pragmatic, solutions-focused approach. You should be able to quickly gain credibility and buy in from stakeholders at all levels across a multidisciplinary organisation. You should also have an interest in environmental matters.

On top of the basic salary (a budget to £55,000 per annum is available) and excellent benefits package (including pension to 10%, holidays rising to 30 days with service and two x paid CSR days), you will benefit from a collegiate and remote working environment (the team will have non-obligatory face-to-face team meetings each year plus optional meet ups on day one for new team members in their home city).

To learn more about this role, please send your CV to Adele Callaghan (specifying full details of your current remuneration package) or email me for a return call to discuss the role.
