Maintenance Operative - Social Housing
Location: Leeds
Hours: 3 days per week
Contract: Temporary - approx. 3 months
We are currently seeking an experienced Maintenance Operative to support the upkeep of our social housing properties across Leeds. This is a hands-on, short-term role ideal for a multi-skilled professional who enjoys practical work and making a positive impact for tenants.
The Role
Working alongside our Maintenance Administrator, you will carry out a wide range of general repairs and property inspections across tenanted and void properties. The role focuses on responsive and preventative maintenance to ensure homes remain safe, secure and in good repair.
Typical duties will include:
- Inspecting occupied and empty properties
- General repairs including:
- Lock changes and securing properties
- Minor plastering and patch repairs
- Re-hanging doors and basic joinery
- Boarding up broken windows
- Fence repairs
- Painting and decorating
- Minor plumbing tasks such as fixing leaks and resealing baths
- Topping up boilers and showing tenants safe operation
- Identifying and addressing damp and mould issues
- Responding to tenant repair calls when the Maintenance Administrator is unavailable
Please note: This role does not include gas or electrical work requiring formal qualifications, and there is currently no out-of-hours requirement.
About You
We're looking for someone who:
- Has proven experience in a maintenance, handyperson or multi-trade role
- Has experience working in social housing or with vulnerable tenants (highly desirable)
- Is reliable, approachable and able to work independently
- Communicates clearly and respectfully with tenants
- Can manage a varied workload across multiple properties
We particularly welcome applications from women maintenance operatives, as some tenants prefer this for personal or safety reasons. However, our priority is appointing the best person for the role; appropriate support will be provided when attending sensitive visits.
