Are you passionate about protecting public health and ensuring food safety standards are met across communities? We're looking for a dedicated and knowledgeable Food Safety Officer to join our Food and Safety Team, delivering high-quality regulatory services across the local borough. This is a temporary contract until March 2026.

As a key member of the Food and Safety Team, you will play a vital role in delivering borough-wide regulatory services to customers, visitors, and businesses. Your responsibilities will include providing expert advice and guidance, conducting inspections and interventions, taking samples, and investigating alleged breaches of the law. You will also lead investigations into notifiable infectious diseases and accidents where appropriate, and enforce legislation within your area of competency to protect public health, safety, and economic well-being. Working closely with the Food Standards Agency (FSA) and in accordance with the Food Law Code of Practice, you will collaborate with colleagues across Regulatory Services and other council departments to meet service priorities. Additionally, you will engage with external partners to ensure regulation is delivered in a coordinated, consistent, and efficient manner.

We're looking for a qualified Environmental Health Officer or someone with equivalent experience in food safety and regulatory enforcement. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of relevant legislation and public health responsibilities, along with excellent communication, investigation, and problem-solving skills. You should be confident working independently while also being an effective team player, able to collaborate across departments and with external partners to deliver high-quality regulatory services. You will also have a full UK Driving Licence and access to your own vehicle and business insurance, as this role requires a driver.
