Your new company Hays Recruitment are proud to be working in partnership with a mainstream 3-form entry primary school in Widnes that is not only at the heart of its local community but also easily accessible via public transport as they are looking to appoint experienced and reliable teaching assistants to support pupils with speech and language difficulties within a reception class. This is a full-time (32.5 hours per week) long-term temporary contract starting in September 2025 that will last the full academic year.

Your new role As a teaching assistant within this school, you will play an integral part in the learning and development of a small group of pupils with ECHPs in the reception class. The pupils that you will be supporting have a variety of needs, including ASD, delay disorders and learning disabilities that are able to access parts of the curriculum but struggling to access the majority. This is not down to their behaviour, as they are an extremely loving group of pupils that are struggling with their speech and language. To ensure that all pupils reach their full academic potential, you will offer specific speech and language interventions on a 1:1 basis. As well as this, you will deliver phonics assessments using the RWI phonics scheme, use associative cards, hold guided reading and writing sessions on a small group basis and ensure that all attainment sessions are fun and stimulating to retain focus. Over the course of the academic year, this school is hoping that you will make continuous progress with the pupils and integrate them more into the main class/curriculum.

What you'll need to succeed To be considered in your application, you must have full 'Right to Work' in the UK as well as recent referenceable classroom experience, as well as:

  • Experience delivering speech and language interventions
  • Experience using PECs and/or Makaton is advantageous
  • An NVQ Level 2 Supporting Teaching and Learning or equivalent qualification is advantageous but not essential

What you'll get in return If you are successful in your application, you will receive the full support, dedication and guidance of a senior DfE accredited recruitment consultant as well as a wide range of amazing benefits that include:

  • Free training
  • Upfront cost of DBS covered
  • Long-term contract
  • Competitive rate of pay
  • Full holiday entitlement
  • Company pension scheme
  • Refer a Friend scheme
  • Access to exclusive vacancies
