Your new role as a Bat Detector Ecologist involves supporting environmental compliance on a major highway infrastructure project. You will carry out bat activity surveys and monitoring to inform ecological mitigation and ensure works remain compliant with relevant legislation.
Key responsibilities include:
- Undertaking dusk/dawn bat surveys
- Deploying, retrieving and analysing bat detectors
- Identifying bat species from acoustic recordings
- Assisting with ecological inspections and site monitoring
- Producing accurate field notes and survey data
- Supporting Ecological Clerk of Works (ECoW) activities where required
- Liaising with site teams to communicate ecological constraints
- Ensuring all work is completed in line with health and safety procedures
What you'll need to succeed:
- Degree in Ecology or related area
- CSCS / Highways Passport
- Own PPE
- Experience carrying out bat activity surveys
- Proficiency using bat detector equipment and software
- Strong bat species identification skills
- Knowledge of UK wildlife legislation and best practice guidance
- Ability to work flexible hours, including early mornings and evenings
- Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle
- Excellent communication and report-writing skills
- Bat Licence L1/2
