We are currently recruiting for a Complex Needs Support Worker to provide short-term cover within a homelessness prevention service in Plymouth. This service delivers intensive, person-centred support to individuals with complex needs living in supported accommodation across multiple shared houses.
You will work on an outreach basis, providing one-to-one support and case management to help people stabilise their situations and move towards greater independence. The service operates using trauma-informed practice and Psychologically Informed Environment (PIE) principles.
Your new role
- Shifts: Weekends, Saturday and Sundays
- Prioritise immediate customer needs and effectively manage risk
- Provide intensive, personalised support and robust case management
- Support customers to engage in recovery-focused support planning
- Enable access to benefits, funding, and specialist external services
- Build and maintain professional relationships with partner agencies
- Promote independence and sustain tenancies
- Maintain accurate case notes, records, and support plans
- Work collaboratively as part of a wider support team
What you'll need to succeed
- Experience in homelessness, supported housing, mental health, substance misuse, or related services (desirable but not essential)
- A strong understanding of safeguarding and professional boundaries (or willingness to learn)
- A resilient, calm, and pragmatic approach to challenging situations
- Empathy, patience, and a non-judgemental attitude
- Excellent communication, listening, and engagement skills
- Good organisation, IT, and written skills
- Self-motivated, proactive, and solution-focused
- Ability to travel between multiple locations across Plymouth (full driving licence required)
