Our client is a global law firm with particular expertise within the insurance sector; they are regarded as one of the international leaders in insurance. They currently have an excellent opportunity for a Claims Handler to join their Insurance division to work on a diverse range of commercial claims. This is a fantastic opportunity to join a growing team with excellent long-term progression opportunities: you will be able to work from home frequently with travel to either the Taunton or Bristol office as and when required (likely on a monthly basis). This role would suit someone looking for an opportunity where internal progression is supported.

Joining the team as a Claims Handler, you will be acting on behalf of the insurer, defending claims. The role will involve working on a mixed portfolio of claims made against professionals on behalf of leading insurers, acting under a delegated authority for pre-litigated matters from first notification of loss to resolution. Claims handlers continue to manage claims that fall outside of the delegated authority as an agent for the insurer client, reviewing and managing panel appointment and reporting. Each claims handler will need to develop a broad knowledge of legal issues in respect of a variety of case types. The role demands the ability to understand and deliver a first-class service to insurers and provide support to the relationship management of the client for the firm. The team handles claims on behalf of major insurers, managing general agents and insurer-led schemes. They deal with thousands of notifications, which include solicitors' professional indemnity (PI), architects and other construction professionals, accountants, Independent Financial Advisors (IFAs), first-party cyber schemes and Before the Event/After the Event (BTE/ATE) claims. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with clients to find creative bespoke risk solutions and driving outcomes.

You will be:

  • Claims Handling of professional indemnity and financial lines, advising on coverage and potential to impact clients and recommending strategies to bring them to a timely and effective resolution to ensure favourable outcomes;
  • Preparing detailed technical referrals including coverage and reserving recommendations for clients and their Capacity;
  • Instructing and monitoring service suppliers, including external legal counsel, panel firms and adjusters and controlling expenditure;
  • Providing support to Client's Underwriters including advising on claims related information, updating on trends, attending claims review meetings as required;
  • Relationship building, developing market recognition and promoting the Claims Team;
  • Assisting in the mentoring, training and development of Assistant Claims Handlers and Technicians.

What you'll need to succeed:

You will have previous claims handling or paralegal experience/a good track record of handling professional indemnity claims (preferably gained at a defendant insurance law firm or with the insurance market), however claimant experience is also welcomed. Experience of BTE (Before the Event) or ATE (After the Event) claims is ideal but not essential. You will be confident and articulate and have excellent client skills.

What you'll get in return:

You will receive a market-leading salary and benefits package. Flexible and agile working options are available, and you will be joining a global law firm, where you will be offered genuine, excellent long-term career prospects. The firm also offers sponsorship for qualification for the right candidate.
