A well-established engineering organisation in North Birmingham is looking to appoint a Maintenance & Design Engineer on a temporary basis, to support current operational requirements. This role is inside IR35 and is offered as a PAYE temporary assignment via Hays, with the potential to transition into a permanent position subject to performance and business needs. This is a varied, hands-on position combining maintenance engineering and fault-finding with design, CAD and development activity within a manufacturing / engineering environment.
The role involves working as part of a small, experienced engineering team, providing support across machinery maintenance, site services and engineering design, helping to maintain uptime while contributing to ongoing engineering improvements.
Responsibilities will include:
- Responding to machinery breakdowns, fault-finding and repair
- Planned preventative maintenance and general site maintenance
- Diagnosing root causes and implementing effective engineering solutions
- Mechanical, electrical and basic PCB design activities
- Producing CAD models, technical drawings and engineering documentation
- Supporting prototyping and continuous improvement initiatives
- Maintaining accurate parts records, BOMs and engineering changes
- Ensuring all work is carried out in line with health, safety and regulatory standards
About you:
- 18th Edition (BS 7671) Wiring Regulations
- Strong mechanical fault-finding and troubleshooting experience
- Experience delivering preventative maintenance programmes
- Hands-on workshop experience (lathes, milling machines, CNC machinery)
- Proficiency using SolidWorks and 2D CAD systems
- Experience producing complex 3D models and manufacturing drawings
- Knowledge of electrical safety standards
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work under pressure
- Good organisation, communication and attention to detail
Desirable:
- Engineering qualification (HND/HNC, apprenticeship or degree)
- Experience with HVAC, hydraulics or pneumatics
- Exposure to PDM / PLM systems and BOM control
