Your new company On behalf of Birmingham City Council, we are recruiting for a Local Investigation Officer to support a citywide environmental improvement initiative in partnership with the Waste Enforcement Team.

This is an excellent opportunity to join one of the UK's largest local authorities and play a key role in educating communities, improving local environments and supporting compliance across Birmingham's neighbourhoods.

Your new role This is a full-time position working 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday, on a three-month ongoing contract.

Based across Birmingham, the role is primarily field-based, with staff meeting at the office each morning before travelling to designated locations across the city.

As a Customer Liaison Officer, you will act as the first point of contact within areas identified as waste enforcement hotspots.

You will engage directly with residents and members of the public, providing education, guidance and support to encourage positive behavioural changes and improve compliance with environmental standards.

You will investigate reported issues, gather information and build positive relationships within local communities.

Where concerns remain unresolved following initial contact, you will escalate cases to the Waste Enforcement Team for further action.

This is a highly visible role that requires confidence in speaking with the public and representing Birmingham City Council professionally at all times.

All necessary equipment will be provided.

What you'll need to succeed To be successful in this role, you will have experience working in a customer-facing environment and be confident communicating with people from a wide range of backgrounds.

You will possess excellent interpersonal skills, a calm and professional approach, and the ability to handle difficult conversations constructively.

Experience within community engagement, housing, enforcement support, environmental services, customer service or a similar field would be advantageous, although candidates with strong transferable skills will also be considered.

You will be comfortable working outdoors, travelling across Birmingham and managing your workload independently while maintaining accurate records of interactions and outcomes.

What you'll get in return In return, you will receive a pay rate of £13.45 per hour plus holiday allowance, equivalent to £15.07 per hour for the first 12 weeks.

Following this period, the rate increases to £15.03 per hour plus holiday allowance, equivalent to £17.60 per hour.

You will gain valuable experience working alongside Birmingham City Council's Waste Enforcement Team, contributing to cleaner and safer communities across the city.

This role offers stable full-time hours, all necessary equipment, and the opportunity to make a genuine difference by engaging directly with residents and supporting environmental improvement initiatives throughout Birmingham.
