Broadway Academy is seeking an ambitious, creative leader with a passion for improving educational outcomes for students in inner city Birmingham. The successful candidate will contribute to Broadway's values-driven ethos, promote high expectations for students and staff, and build on the Geography Department's nationally recognised profile.
The Geography Department within the humanities directorate is a supportive, dedicated and passionate team that works together to achieve excellent outcomes for students. The department has been recognised for its curriculum development with the Bernice McCabe award for curriculum design and the Princes Teaching Institute centre of excellence quality mark. It runs a wide range of trips to enhance student understanding of individual subjects and improve their life experiences.
The role involves a strong commitment to curriculum development, ensuring that GCSE results improve, A-Level results become outstanding, and 6th form recruitment is maximised. The leader will develop and deliver strategies to address SEN support and outcomes, putting literacy and numeracy at the forefront of improving student outcomes. There is a need for creativity and commitment to retain the department's award-winning status and develop the co-curricular and extra-curricular offer through the outdoor education centre in Worcestershire and the Broadway Geographical Society's fieldwork programme. Effective behaviour management within a restorative practice framework is essential, along with the ability to manage and support staff while maintaining momentum and morale.
