What You'll Bring (Essential Skills Experience)

  • Strong proficiency in CAD software (e.g. SolidWorks, CATIA, NX) for 3D modelling and detailed drawings;
  • Thorough understanding of engineering drawing standards, GD&T, and tolerance analysis;
  • Experience with mechanical design for manufacturability (DFM) and assembly (DFA);
  • Solid knowledge of materials, their properties, and selection criteria for mechanical components;
  • Ability to perform basic structural, thermal, and fatigue calculations and interpret results;
  • Proficiency in creating and maintaining BOMs, part specifications, and engineering change documentation;
  • Practical experience with prototyping, testing, and validating mechanical designs;
  • Good problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot design and production issues;
  • Strong communication skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams (manufacturing, suppliers, testing);
  • Competence in version control and PLM systems for managing design data.

What Will Set You Apart (Advantageous Experience)

  • Experience with finite element analysis (FEA) tools (e.g. ANSYS, Abaqus) for design verification;
  • Familiarity with product lifecycle management (PLM) tools;
  • Knowledge of sheet metal design, injection moulding, or other specific manufacturing processes technologies;
  • Experience working with suppliers and managing technical supplier documentation;
  • Understanding of industry standards and certifications relevant to mechanical products (ISO 9001, IATF 16949);
  • Experience with electrical-mechanical integration and routing for harnesses or tubing;
  • Hands-on experience with test rigs, instrumentation, and data acquisition for validation;
  • Familiarity with cost reduction and value engineering methods;
  • Previous exposure to Agile or stage-gate product development processes.

What You'll Be Doing (Role Responsibilities)

  • Lead mechanical design activities for assigned products or subsystems, ensuring technical quality and delivery on schedule;
  • Translate product requirements and concepts into detailed 3D models, drawings, and specifications;
  • Define material selection, finish, and tolerance requirements in collaboration with materials and manufacturing teams;
  • Perform design reviews, risk assessments, and provide mitigation recommendations to stakeholders;
  • Collaborate with electronic systems engineers to ensure seamless integration of mechanical components;
  • Support prototyping activities, oversee build and test plans, and interpret test results to drive design improvements;
  • Create and maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs), part lists, and engineering change notices (ECNs);
  • Engage with suppliers to specify components, review manufacturing feasibility, and resolve production issues;
  • Ensure designs meet applicable regulatory, safety, and quality standards;
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives for design processes, manufacturability, and cost efficiency;
  • Participate in project planning, status reporting, and stakeholder communication to ensure alignment and timely delivery.
