The role of Baggage Systems Technical Assurance Specialist supports British Airways (BA) in ensuring the technical performance, compliance, and operational readiness of changes made within the baggage handling systems (BHS) throughout the lifecycle of the projects. This will include programmes under obsolescence, capacity, growth, and future baggage strategy initiatives.
Scope of Work
- Develop and implement technical assurance strategies, plans, and processes.
- Review baggage system designs and validate all types of testing outcomes both within the client and by third party suppliers and/or contractors.
- Attend Integrated Test Facility (ITF) sessions and third-party meetings, working closely with HAL Baggage Operations Assurance (BOA) teams to ensure right outcomes protecting client operations and interests.
- Assess risks and impacts to client operation and develop effective mitigation plans to protect clients and customers.
- Collaborate with Client Ops, HAL, VI, Digital, and other external partners, where appropriate.
- Ensure systems comply with aviation regulations, IATA standards, and Heathrow-specific safety protocols.
- Act as a point of escalation for technical issues and lead post-incident reviews and create future lessons learnt actions with suppliers and operational colleagues.
- Maintain accurate technical documentation and produce performance reports.
Deliverables
- Ownership and accountability for the Technical Assurance Strategy Document and creating testing Reports (i.e. UAT/SAT results, assessing technical risk assessments).
- Compliance Reports - evaluating at all levels our regulatory compliance and airline specific responsibilities.
- Developing and maintaining BA Acceptance Criteria Documentation and Incident Review Reports.
- Provide ongoing progress reporting.
Contractor Responsibilities
- Provide expert technical assurance support for baggage system projects through technical know-how.
- Engage with internal/external stakeholders and suppliers to ensure project alignment and client objectives are being achieved.
- Deliver all required documentation and reports on time to Senior Manager, Baggage Systems Development.
- Maintain flexibility in working hours to meet project demands and airside locations at Heathrow.
Required Skills and Experience
- Solid experience in baggage handling systems (Heathrow ideally) aligned to baggage operations knowledge (essential).
- Familiarity with wider Heathrow systems, technical particulars, and governance structures (essential).
- Experience in change management and ramp operations.
- Strong understanding of engineering principles and assurance processes within a Baggage System environment.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Proficient in MS Office and project information tools.
