Hays Education are delighted to be working in partnership with a welcoming and well-regarded primary school in Burscough to recruit an experienced School Business Manager for a maternity cover position commencing in January 2027. This will be a term-time only role, with up to £25 per hour depending on experience.
This is an excellent opportunity to join a dedicated leadership team and play a key role in the strategic and operational management of the school. The position is expected to run for a minimum of two terms through to Summer 2027.
Your new role
As School Business Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing the school's financial, administrative, HR and operational functions, ensuring the smooth day-to-day running of the school while supporting long-term strategic objectives.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Running day-to-day finance with some reporting to the Headteacher
- Overseeing HR administration, recruitment and personnel processes
- Managing contracts, procurement and supplier relationships
- Monitoring compliance with statutory and school policies
- Supporting health and safety, premises management and risk assessments
- Leading and developing administrative support staff
- Ensuring effective management of school systems and operational procedures
What you'll need to succeed
- Have previous experience working as a School Business Manager or within a senior school business support role
- Possess strong financial management
- Have excellent organisational and leadership skills
- Be confident working collaboratively with senior leaders, governors and external stakeholders
- Demonstrate a strong understanding of school compliance, HR and operational procedures
- Ideally, have experience working within a primary school setting
- Have knowledge of school management systems and education funding processes
