Are you an experienced building safety professional looking to lead safety compliance across a diverse housing portfolio?
A leading social housing provider is seeking a Building & Fire Safety Manager to take ownership of building and fire safety compliance across its residential housing stock, including higher-risk and high-rise buildings. This is a key leadership position where you will play a pivotal role in ensuring residents remain safe while driving compliance with the latest building safety legislation.
The Role
Reporting to the Head of Building Safety, you will lead the development, implementation and continuous improvement of building and fire safety arrangements across the housing portfolio.
You will act as the organisation's lead specialist for building and fire safety, ensuring compliance with the Building Safety Act 2022, Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, and all associated regulations and guidance.
You will oversee the development and maintenance of Building Safety Cases, manage the Golden Thread of information, lead fire risk management programmes, and provide strategic assurance to senior stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead building and fire safety compliance across residential housing stock.
- Develop and maintain Building Safety Cases for higher-risk buildings.
- Manage fire and structural safety risks through robust risk management frameworks.
- Oversee the Golden Thread of building safety information and data management.
- Ensure effective Mandatory Occurrence Reporting (MOR) processes are in place.
- Lead building safety inspections, audits, assurance programmes and compliance reviews.
- Manage and support specialist building safety and inspection staff.
- Oversee Fire Risk Assessments and associated remedial works programmes.
- Monitor contractor performance and ensure safety-critical works are delivered to the highest standards.
- Advise senior management on legislative changes, emerging risks and compliance issues.
- Work closely with residents, contractors, consultants, regulators and internal teams to promote a positive safety culture.
- Manage budgets, procurement activities and building safety projects.
- Support emergency response arrangements and attend sites when required.
About YouTo be successful in this role, you will have:Essential
- Degree-level qualification in a construction, surveying, building control, fire safety or related discipline, or equivalent experience.
- Significant experience managing building and fire safety in residential property or social housing environments.
- Strong knowledge of:
- Building Safety Act 2022
- Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005
- Building Regulations and associated guidance
- Higher-Risk Building requirements
- Experience developing and managing risk assessment programmes.
- Experience managing contractors, consultants and compliance programmes.
- Proven ability to manage budgets and deliver complex projects.
- Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
- Strong understanding of building construction and safety systems.
- Experience maintaining accurate compliance records and digital information systems.
- Ability to interpret legislation and translate requirements into operational practice.
Desirable
- NEBOSH qualification or equivalent health and safety certification.
- Experience working within social housing or local government.
- Knowledge of compliance systems such as Northgate, Keystone or similar housing management platforms.
Additional InformationThe successful applicant will be expected to undertake site visits, including working at height, accessing confined spaces and attending out-of-hours emergencies when required. Occasional evening and weekend meetings may also form part of the role.
