Hays Civil Engineering are working with a leading UK infrastructure contractor delivering a significant programme of water and wastewater investment works throughout AMP8.We are seeking an experienced Principal Designer - Design Assurance professional to provide governance, compliance and technical assurance across a portfolio of major infrastructure projects.This role will be focused on reviewing designs, challenging construction methodologies, ensuring compliance with CDM Regulations and promoting the delivery of safe, buildable and efficient engineering solutions throughout the project lifecycle.
The Role
As Principal Designer - Design Assurance, you will work closely with design teams, project managers, construction teams and delivery partners to ensure that design risks are identified, mitigated and managed before construction activities commence.You will provide independent assurance of design submissions, review construction methodologies and support the implementation of CDM best practice across multiple projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Undertaking design assurance reviews across civil, mechanical, electrical and process engineering disciplines.
- Reviewing construction methodologies for buildability, safety and efficiency.
- Acting as Principal Designer under CDM Regulations where required.
- Auditing design packages to ensure compliance with statutory and project requirements.
- Challenging unsafe or impractical design solutions.
- Reviewing hazard registers and design risk assessments.
- Supporting design reviews, gateway reviews and assurance processes.
- Ensuring designers discharge their duties under CDM Regulations.
- Working with delivery teams to identify and manage design-related risks.
- Promoting best practice, lessons learned and continuous improvement.
- Supporting project governance and technical compliance requirements.
Requirements
- Extensive experience within infrastructure, utilities or water-sector projects.
- Strong working knowledge of CDM Regulations and Principal Designer duties.
- Experience reviewing multidisciplinary engineering designs.
- Understanding of construction planning, sequencing and buildability.
- Ability to undertake technical audits and assurance reviews.
- Experience working with Tier 1 contractors, consultancies or major asset owners.
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
Desirable
- Water industry or AMP framework experience.
- Chartered Engineer or working towards chartership.
- NEBOSH Construction Certificate or equivalent health and safety qualification.
- Experience delivering projects under NEC contracts.
