Senior Design Manager - Water Infrastructure in Lincoln

A major contractor operating within the UK water sector is seeking an experienced Senior Design Manager to support the delivery of a large portfolio of clean water and wastewater improvement schemes across the AMP8 investment period.This position offers the opportunity to play a leading role in the design and delivery of complex infrastructure projects including treatment facilities, pumping assets, pipeline networks and associated civil engineering works. The programme represents a substantial long-term investment in critical water infrastructure, offering security of work and involvement in a diverse range of projects.

The Opportunity

Reporting into the senior project leadership team, you will be responsible for overseeing the design process across multiple live projects, ensuring engineering solutions are technically robust, commercially viable and aligned with delivery objectives.Working closely with operational, commercial and engineering teams, you will ensure design activities remain fully integrated with construction requirements, helping to drive efficient project delivery from inception through to commissioning and handover.

Key Duties

• Lead the management of multidisciplinary design teams across a portfolio of infrastructure projects.
• Oversee the progression of designs through all project stages, from feasibility and detailed design through to construction support.
• Ensure design programmes align with project milestones and delivery requirements.
• Coordinate technical reviews, approvals and assurance activities.
• Act as a key link between consultants, delivery teams, framework partners and client stakeholders.
• Identify, manage and mitigate design-related risks.
• Support compliance with CDM regulations and internal governance procedures.
• Promote practical, buildable and cost-efficient engineering solutions.
• Monitor design performance and resolve emerging technical challenges.
• Provide ongoing design support throughout construction, commissioning and project close-out.
• Mentor and develop Design Managers and wider engineering personnel.

About You

To be considered, you will have:

• Extensive experience in a Design Manager or Senior Design Manager position within major infrastructure, utilities or civil engineering environments.
• A proven track record of managing multidisciplinary engineering design packages.
• Strong knowledge of design management processes, technical assurance and risk control.
• Previous involvement in water, wastewater, utilities or major infrastructure projects.
• Experience working under NEC forms of contract.
• Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
• The ability to manage several concurrent projects and priorities.

  Desirable Experience

• Experience working on AMP framework projects.
• Chartered status, or active progress towards professional accreditation.
• Understanding of water treatment, wastewater treatment and pipeline infrastructure.
• Previous experience delivering projects for major contractors, regulated utilities or asset owners.
