An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Electrical Maintenance Manager to join a critical aviation infrastructure operation supporting Heathrow Airport's fuel distribution network.
Working on the Heathrow Maintenance Framework, you will lead the development, implementation and continual improvement of electrical maintenance processes across a complex and highly regulated environment. You will work closely with site teams, stakeholders and contractors to ensure electrical assets are maintained safely, efficiently and in compliance with industry regulations and best practice.
This position would suit an experienced electrical engineering professional with a strong maintenance background within aviation, fuel handling, oil & gas, petrochemical, utilities or other safety-critical industries.About the Client
Heathrow Hydrant Operating Company Limited (HHOPCo) manages and maintains the aviation fuel distribution infrastructure and underground pipeline network at London Heathrow Airport. The organisation is responsible for the safe, reliable and compliant delivery of aviation fuel across one of the world's busiest airports.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and support the development of Electrical Maintenance Procedures, Risk Assessments and Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) programmes across site.
- Work collaboratively with operational and maintenance teams to identify gaps in maintenance strategies and develop plans to address them.
- Review existing maintenance processes and implement improvements to enhance reliability, compliance and asset performance.
- Provide technical leadership on electrical maintenance activities relating to fuel storage, fuel distribution and hydrant systems.
- Ensure electrical systems and installations comply with all relevant legislation, standards and aviation industry requirements.
- Manage inspection, testing and maintenance programmes for electrical assets.
- Support reliability improvement initiatives, fault investigations and root cause analysis activities.
- Review engineering documentation, technical specifications and maintenance records.
- Interface with contractors, consultants and key stakeholders to ensure maintenance objectives are achieved.
- Promote a proactive safety culture and ensure the highest standards of health, safety and environmental compliance.
Qualifications & Professional Membership
- Degree qualified in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Control Engineering or a related discipline.
- Recognised engineering apprenticeship with relevant experience may also be considered.
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) or Incorporated Engineer (IEng) status with a recognised professional institution, or demonstrable progress towards achieving professional registration.
Experience Required
- Minimum 5-10 years' experience in electrical engineering or maintenance management within aviation, fuel infrastructure, oil & gas, petrochemical, utilities, energy or similar sectors.
- Strong understanding of electrical maintenance methodologies and asset management principles.
- Experience developing maintenance procedures, maintenance strategies, risk assessments and safe systems of work.
- Good knowledge of electrical design, maintenance and installation requirements within aviation or similarly regulated environments.
- Experience working with JIG (Joint Inspection Group) standards relating to aviation fuel quality control, airport depots and hydrant operations.
- Familiarity with Energy Institute (EI) guidance and standards for aviation fuel handling and storage operations.
- Experience managing maintenance programmes within hazardous area environments.

- CompEx inspection and maintenance practices.
Hazardous Area Systems
- Installation requirements for electrical equipment in potentially explosive atmospheres.
- Hazardous Area Classification and equipment selection.
- Bonding and earthing requirements for fuel handling operations.
- Static electricity risk mitigation and electrical continuity requirements.
- Earth electrode resistance testing and verification.
- Cathodic protection systems and associated Energy Institute guidance, including EI 1540.
Equipment Certification & ComplianceWorking knowledge of:
- CE Marking requirements.
- ATEX Directives.
- Pressure Equipment Directive (PED).
- Low Voltage Directive (LVD).
- Machinery Directive.
- Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) Compliance.
