Hays Education is working closely with a secondary school in Hastings that is looking for a passionate English specialist to join their team.
As a Teacher of English, you will deliver engaging and well-structured lessons across Key Stages 3 and 4, helping students to develop their confidence in reading, writing, communication, and critical thinking.
You will be responsible for planning and delivering lessons that meet curriculum requirements, monitoring student progress and adapting your teaching to support a range of abilities and learning needs.
Depending on your experience and the requirements of the school, there may also be opportunities to teach English Language and English Literature at Key Stage 5.
- Your Responsibilities
- Planning and delivering engaging English Language and English Literature lessons
- Teaching students across Key Stages 3 and 4, with potential Key Stage 5 opportunities
- Preparing students for assessments and examinations
- Monitoring, assessing and recording student progress
- Providing constructive feedback that supports continued development
- Differentiating lessons to meet a variety of abilities and learning needs
- Maintaining high expectations for behaviour, effort and achievement
- Creating a positive, inclusive and supportive classroom environment
- Contributing to departmental planning, meetings and school activities
- Following the school's safeguarding, behaviour and assessment policies
- Building positive professional relationships with students, colleagues and parents or carers
What We Are Looking For The successful candidate will be a knowledgeable and enthusiastic English specialist who can inspire students and encourage a genuine interest in the subject.
You will have strong classroom management skills, a clear understanding of the secondary English curriculum and the ability to build positive relationships with students.
You should be organised, adaptable and committed to helping every student make progress.
You will ideally have
- Qualified Teacher Status or an equivalent recognised teaching qualification
- A degree or strong academic background in English or a related subject
- Experience teaching English within a secondary school
- Knowledge of the Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 English curriculum
- Experience teaching English Language and English Literature
- Strong behaviour and classroom management skills
- A flexible and professional approach
- A commitment to safeguarding and supporting young people
- An enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service, or willingness to apply for one
- Suitable professional references covering your recent employment history
