We are currently recruiting for an experienced Plant Department Fitter to join a busy plant department, working both within the workshop and across construction sites.
This is a varied, hands-on role supporting the Plant Department Workshop and Field Service Supervisor with the inspection, servicing, advanced fault diagnosis, maintenance and repair of specialist plant and piling equipment.
The successful candidate will have a strong mechanical background with experience working on hydraulic systems, diesel engines, gearboxes, winches and electrical controls, alongside the ability to diagnose faults and carry out effective repairs in both workshop and site environments.
Your new role
- Carry out planned and reactive maintenance on plant and specialist construction equipment.
- Complete inspections, servicing, repairs and advanced fault diagnosis.
- Diagnose and repair mechanical, hydraulic, electrical and control-system faults.
- Carry out the rigging and de-rigging of plant equipment as required.
- Inspect, test and calibrate piling plant and associated equipment to ensure it meets operational standards.
- Install new components and retrofit existing systems to improve equipment reliability and performance.
- Work confidently with hydraulic systems, diesel engines, winches, gearboxes and electrical controls.
- Read and interpret hydraulic schematics, technical manuals and engineering drawings.
- Carry out repairs and installations in accordance with technical specifications.
- Support the inspection of lifting equipment where required.
- Respond to breakdowns and equipment faults on construction sites.
What you'll need to succeed
- City & Guilds, NVQ or equivalent plant/mechanical qualification
- Previous experience as a Plant Fitter, Heavy Plant Fitter, Mobile Plant Fitter, Mechanical Fitter or Plant Engineer
- CSCS card
- MEWP licence
- Experience or competency in lifting equipment inspection
- Strong mechanical fault-finding and diagnostic skills
- Good understanding of hydraulic systems
