Temporary & Interim Opportunities | Primary & Secondary Schools
Are you an experienced Site Supervisor, Caretaker or Premises Officer looking for your next opportunity within a school?
Hays Education is currently recruiting multiple Site Supervisors to support primary and secondary schools across East Lancashire, with opportunities available in Blackburn, Darwen, Accrington, Burnley and Colne.
We work with schools across the region that regularly require experienced site staff for short-term cover, ongoing temporary assignments and interim positions.
Previous school experience is advantageous but not essential for every opportunity.
As these positions are within education, full education compliance and safeguarding checks will be required. A DBS registered on the Update Service is highly advantageous, although we can support suitable candidates with the DBS process where required.
Your new role
As a School Site Supervisor, you will play an important role in ensuring the school premises are safe, secure, well maintained and ready for pupils and staff each day.
Roles can vary from school to school and may include:
- Opening and closing the school and acting as a keyholder
- Maintaining the security of the buildings, grounds and site
- Carrying out routine maintenance and minor repairs
- Monitoring the condition of school buildings and reporting larger maintenance requirements
- Completing routine health and safety and compliance checks
- Fire alarm, emergency lighting, water and other statutory checks following appropriate training
- Supporting and supervising contractors working on site
- Keeping external areas, pathways, drains and gutters clear and safe
- Basic decorating and refurbishment work
- Setting up rooms, moving furniture and supporting school events
- Undertaking general porterage duties
- Supporting cleaning and general site duties where required
Some positions operate on a shift-based rota, including early starts and later finishes, so flexibility with working hours is advantageous.
What you'll need to succeed
We would particularly like to hear from candidates who have:
- Previous experience working as a Site Supervisor, Caretaker, Premises Officer or Facilities Assistant
- Experience within a school, college or similar public-sector environment
- Good practical maintenance and DIY skills
- An understanding of health and safety within the workplace
- The confidence to carry out routine site and compliance checks
- A proactive and flexible approach to work
- The ability to prioritise tasks and respond to issues quickly
- A reliable and professional approach when working around pupils and staff
