Your new role
As Site Manager, you will be responsible for managing the day-to-day site operations on a major highways project, ensuring works are delivered safely, efficiently and to the required quality standards. You will work closely with the Project Manager, engineering team and supply chain partners to drive programme performance and maintain high safety standards throughout the project lifecycle.
Key responsibilities include:
- Managing daily site activities across multiple work fronts
- Supervising direct labour, site engineers and subcontractors
- Delivering highway construction works including earthworks, drainage, kerbing, road construction and surfacing activities
- Ensuring all works are carried out in compliance with health, safety and environmental requirements
- Coordinating traffic management and stakeholder interface requirements
- Monitoring progress against programme and taking corrective action where required
- Undertaking site inspections, quality checks and briefings
- Managing plant, labour and materials effectively to maximise productivity
- Supporting project reporting and attending progress meetings
- Maintaining strong relationships with clients, local authorities and key stakeholders
What you'll need to succeed
- Experience working as a Site Manager on highways, major road or infrastructure projects
- Strong understanding of highway construction methodologies including earthworks, drainage, pavement and surfacing works
- Experience managing subcontractors and direct operational teams
- Excellent knowledge of health and safety legislation and best practice
- Ability to drive programme performance in a fast-paced construction environment
- SMSTS qualification
- CSCS Black Card (or equivalent management-level card)
- First Aid at Work
- Full UK driving licence
Desirable
- Previous experience on major roads or National Highways schemes
- Temporary Works Coordinator qualification
- NRSWA Supervisor qualification
- Background delivering large-scale junction improvements, bypasses or highway upgrades
