Your new school
For September 2026, Hays Education is recruiting SEN Teaching Assistants and 1:1 Support Assistants for welcoming primary schools across Yardley (B25). These schools are looking for dependable people who can bring patience, encouragement and consistency to pupils with additional needs.Whether you already have school-based SEN experience or have supported children in another setting, this could be a great opportunity to take the next step in a genuinely rewarding role.
Your new role
You may support one pupil throughout the school day, lead focused activities with a small group or help children feel settled and ready to learn in the classroom.Your work may involve:
- Offering tailored 1:1 support to help a pupil access learning
- Supporting children with Autism (ASD), ADHD, speech and language needs, and other additional learning needs
- Using agreed strategies to promote positive behaviour and engagement
- Helping pupils build independence, confidence and social skills
- Sharing observations and working closely with teachers, SENCOs and other professionals
- Contributing to a calm, nurturing and inclusive classroom
Full-time and part-time positions are available, including long-term opportunities across the academic year.
What you'll need to succeed
You could be a strong fit if you:
- Have supported children with SEN in a school, nursery, care or other child-focused environment
- Bring patience, empathy and resilience to your work
- Can build trusting relationships while maintaining clear routines and boundaries
- Feel comfortable working independently on a 1:1 basis and as part of a wider school team
- Are committed to helping children with additional needs make progress
- Hold a relevant qualification is (essential)
- Experience with personal care, behaviour support, Makaton, PECS, Team Teach or similar approaches would be an advantage.
