Hays Education is seeking a resilient and compassionate SEMH Teacher for a Sunderland school on a full-time temporary basis, starting ASAP.

You will be working with pupils with social, emotional and mental health needs, delivering a nurturing curriculum in small class settings where relationships come first.

Your responsibilities:

  • Planning and delivering engaging, differentiated lessons tailored to pupils with SEMH needs
  • Creating a calm, structured and nurturing classroom environment
  • Using de-escalation and positive behaviour strategies to support pupil engagement
  • Adapting learning for pupils working significantly below age-related expectations
  • Tracking progress against academic, social and emotional targets
  • Working closely with teaching assistants, pastoral staff and external agencies
  • Contributing to safeguarding processes and accurate record keeping (e.g. CPOMS)

What you'll need:

  • QTS or equivalent teaching qualification
  • Experience working with pupils with SEMH, SEND or challenging behaviour
  • A patient, consistent and non-judgemental approach
  • Strong behaviour management skills and emotional resilience
  • Team Teach or similar de-escalation training is desirable
  • An Enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service is essential (or willingness to apply for a new one)
