Your new company

You will be joining a specialist secondary setting in Preston that supports pupils aged 11-16 with social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs. The school is a small, nurturing provision with small class sizes and high staff-to-student ratios, allowing for personalised support and strong relationship building. The setting focuses on helping pupils who may have experienced barriers in mainstream education to re-engage with learning, develop emotional regulation and build confidence for the future.

Your new role

As a Teaching Assistant, you will work full-time (5 days per week) on an ongoing basis, supporting pupils both in and out of the classroom. This is a highly rewarding role where you will play a key part in helping students make positive progress. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing 1:1 and small group support to pupils with SEMH needs
  • Supporting behaviour management using consistent and calm de-escalation strategies
  • Encouraging engagement, focus and positive relationships with learning
  • Assisting teachers in delivering a tailored and supportive curriculum
  • Supporting pupils' social, emotional and personal development
  • Contributing to a safe, structured and nurturing learning environment

What you'll need to succeed

  • Have experience working with young people with SEMH, SEND or behavioural needs
  • Be confident managing challenging behaviour in a calm and consistent manner
  • Be resilient, patient and able to build positive, trusting relationships
  • Ideally, have experience in education, alternative provision or care settings
  • Be committed to safeguarding and supporting pupil wellbeing
