Hays Education are working in partnership with a welcoming and supportive secondary school in Huddersfield to recruit a Behaviour Support / SEN Teaching Assistant for a long-term position starting on 7 September 2026. This is a rewarding opportunity to support students who require additional behavioural, emotional, or SEN support, helping them overcome barriers to learning and achieve success both academically and personally.
The Role
As a Behaviour Support / SEN Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with teachers, pastoral teams, and SENCOs to support students both inside and outside the classroom. You will help create a positive learning environment where students feel supported, engaged, and motivated to succeed. No two days will be the same, making this an ideal role for someone who thrives on building relationships and helping young people reach their potential.
Important Information
- This is a secondary school position
- You must be comfortable working with students aged 11-16
- Experience with secondary-aged pupils is highly desirable
- The ability to build positive relationships with teenagers is essential
What We're Looking For
- Experience working with young people within a UK school, alternative provision, SEMH setting, youth work environment, care setting, or similar setting within the last 2 years
- Experience supporting students with SEN, MESH, Autism, ADHD, or behavioural needs would be highly beneficial
- A calm, patient, resilient, and empathetic approach
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- The ability to build trust and establish positive working relationships with students
- A genuine passion for helping young people achieve their best
