Key responsibilities
  • Provide dedicated 1:1 support for a pupil with additional needs
  • Support communication using appropriate strategies (e.g. visual aids, PECS or similar approaches)
  • Manage and respond to challenging behaviour in a calm, consistent and positive manner
  • Work closely with the class teacher, SENCO and external professionals
  • Help the pupil access learning in a way that meets their individual needs
  • Implement behaviour strategies and individual support plans
  • Foster a safe, structured and supportive learning environment
  • Promote the child's social and emotional development
Requirements
  • Proven experience working with children with additional needs (essential)
  • Experience supporting non-verbal pupils and/or children with challenging behaviour
  • Strong understanding of behaviour management strategies
  • Knowledge of SEND practices and communication support methods (desirable)
  • Patient, resilient and nurturing approach
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure and adapt to pupils' needs
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills
