Your new role
As a Teaching Assistant, you'll be able to support a KS1 child working alongside the teacher to help manage daily routines and learning activities. You may assist small groups of children as well with tasks. But generally, provide support to a child 1 to 1 as well as being able to modify challenging behaviour if needed by creating a positive and engaging learning environment. This is a flexible and rewarding role where your contribution makes a real difference every day.
What you'll need to succeed
To be able to become a Teaching Assistant, you will need to have a Teaching Assistant Qualification or have relevant transferable experience (care or something similar). To thrive in this role, you'll need to have a proactive and supportive attitude. You should be confident working with children with different abilities, helping with group tasks and classroom routines. Strong communication, patience, and the ability to follow the teacher's directions are key. A genuine passion for education and a flexible approach will help you make a positive impact every day. You should be able to support an individual child, helping them day to day and be comfortable in a classroom environment.
